User Generated Media: From Blogs, to microblogs, and Social Networks.
Format: Bilingual Workshop. (Spanish and English).
An introductory course designed to provide students with hands-on experience using various social software programs. Using internet applications will give a better understanding of the essential possibilities of social media. The software is examined as tool that can be employed in a variety of situations and experiences. Principles of interpersonal communication, media theory, and privacy are introduced.
Session 1 May 23rd: Social Networks: Facebook, Ning
Session 2 May 31rst: Blogging and microblogging: Twitter, Blogger, Thumblr
Session 3 May 7th: Social Media Platforms: Flickr,
Session 4 June 14th: Queens Community Blog
Each session will focus on:
- Brief history/Context
- What is it use for?
- How can we use it? (Step-by-Step)
- Privacy.
For homework a creative use of the application in place with at least 5-10 respondents (Comments/like/shared, etc).
